E-waste collection

For our retail customers, we dispose of electronic equipment - with the exception of picture tubes - free of charge.

At Inter-Metal we started collecting e-scrap materials in 1999. The primary source of the waste was the telecom company MATÁV (today Hungarian Telekom) which at that time begun replacing the old Ericsson crossbar exchanges. Since that Inter-Metal has vastly expanded its circle of suppliers and as a result it handles over 2500 tons e-scrap annually.

Treatment activities at the Central Csepel facility

  • reception of collected e-scrap
  • weighing by categories and classification according to further treatment methodes
  • manual dismantling and removal of hazardous parts
  • mechanical treatment with shredder technology and separation
  • destroying of floppies, CDs and other type of confidential data carriers

Collection of all the equipment categories!

Refrigerators, CRT containing equipment and fluorescent lamps are directly forwarded to authorised companies where these scraps are treated in environmentally sound manner.

At the first processing stage partial dismantling of devices carried out by manually removing hazardous components and big plastic housings. Depolluted scrap goes for mechanical processing by means of shredder and further separation equipments’ line.

As member of the European Union, Hungary is obliged to meet the requirements which were set up in the EU WEEE Directive.

The recovered metals iron and aluminium either in shredded or manually dismantled form are forwarded to Hungarian smelters. Printed circuit boards and other copper and precious metals content materials are delivered for metallurgical treatment to the few specialised companies where the valuable metals are recycled in an environmentally sound manner.

Recycling

Electronic devices that have been on the market in recent decades and are becoming waste today contain 20-70% metal. Metals separated by manual disassembly or machining are recycled after cleaning and grading: aluminum and iron scrap are delivered to domestic smelters, and materials containing copper and other non-ferrous and precious metals are delivered to foreign processing plants.
